Okazaki Student Exchange

For over thirty years the Rotary Club of Newport Balboa and the Newport Beach Sister City Association have sponsored an annual student exchange with Okazaki, Japan. The 8th grade students go to Okazaki and have home stays as well as visit Kyoto and Tokyo for 10 days in July. In late September the 8th graders from Okazaki come and stay here with the families of the Newport Beach students.

Our club reviews the applications and interviews the candidates and provides financial support including paying for some of the trips local travel and sightseeing activities.

When our Japanese students come to Newport Beach they attend the host student’s school with them and the Rotary Club sponsors a BBQ and pumpkin carving contest among other events.

Who is eligible? 8th grade students (public, charter or private school) who live within the borders of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
